The Half Awake Lady and the Little Mouse

I have always been a light sleeper. I can easily be pulled away from a beautiful dream even by the slightest noise in the real world. No wonder why a few days ago, I was instantly on my feet when I heard a light bang outside our bedroom.

My first thought was, something might have fallen from the ceiling. I went out the room with my still-sleepy-eyes half opened. It was 2 o'clock in the morning, mind you! -_-

I inspected the hallway; it was clear. No sign of any commotion whatsoever. Then I went to the kitchen; everything seemed fine and in perfect harmony. I checked on Sam (my little dog); he was awake, probably awakened by my footsteps. The whole house was in deep slumber. What caused the sound that woke me up then?

I spent a few more minutes wandering around (it's not like our house is so big, okay? hehe) then finally decided to embrace my bed who so lovingly puts me to sleep whenever I need it. BUT. Before that, I took a little appointment with Mr. Comfort Room. That's when the h-o-r-r-o-r (!) had begun.

When I opened the door to the CR, I noticed a piece of plywood on the floor. Being so sleepy and just half awake, I didn't mind it nor inspected it. Then I continued to do my business (:p) when all of sudden, a little mouse came out from its hiding spot behind a pail of water! I managed to stifle a scream---I didn't want to wake to whole world up just because of a mouse. But then it started jumping up and down as if telling me, "Let me out! Let me out!" I almost freaked out! lols. It circled around the bathroom while my heart struggled hard inside my chest cavity. After washing myself I immediately ran out of the CR and hurried to the bedroom. It was a real-close encounter with that little mouse! haha! :)

Whatever antok I still had when I walked out the room unfortunately vanished like a thin smoke in the midst of the raging rain. I calmed myself down and smiled at the thought on why I got so scared of that mouse. I am not generally afraid of mice; in fact, I find them cute specially the little ones. Maybe because that one was so jumpy? haha. Whatever. It was good that I was still brought back to dreamland by whoever is incharge before the alarm sets off and our Almighty God pins the sun to the sky.

My mother always sets traps (the sticky ones) to capture those mice but they seem to keep on breeding endlessly. I used to protest at that idea because I pity those mice when they get trapped. They look so helpless and kawawa talaga---the more they struggle to get out of the trap, the more they get stuck. Poor animate things. oh-oh. But on the other side of the coin, the traps are effective ha!

Have you encountered a similar situation before? How do you get rid of mice in your house? Inputs would be greatly appreciated! :)
