A website is a very important part of a business, so when you create
your business website, you want to do it in a way that will reflect positively
on your business and will be effective for those who visit it. To do so, you
need to be careful to put the right information on your site, and know how to
organize it so that visitors do not become confused or frustrated.
The Information
The purpose of the site is to inform, and perhaps to influence. People
will be visiting your site to get information and make a decision from what
they see. Making things easy for them requires putting all the necessary
information on the site. First, have all contact information available, for
both the business itself and for particular people in the business. This will
help people easily understand how to contact the person or business as a whole
– it will be convenient for them if you put multiple ways to contact, such as a
phone number, email, or social media site. Next, put down general information
about the business so that people can understand what you are. Put a small
history of the business and what you hope to do for customers. Put a
description of products or services and tell people what to expect.
The Organization
People will easily get frustrated and leave if a business website is not organized properly. You will need clear
tabs at the top directing people to different pages with relevant information.
Some examples of tabs include: contact, products/services, history,
administration, and others. Clearly organize information with tables, charts,
or headings and subheadings for text. Relevant photographs can help people
visualize what they are reading about and get a better understanding of your
business. Try to say what you want to say in the least number of words
possible. Visitors do not want to read a lot of text and will skip over it if
there is too much. Having less text, and having it spread out with white space,
will keep people interested and reading.Your clear organization will help them
out and make them happy.
